CHEVROLET TRUCKS POWER INTO 2008 WITH UNPARALLELED RANGE OF MODELS AND CAPABILITIES – AND NEW TAHOE HYBRID

From the new HHR Panel to the brawn and refinement of full-size SUVs and trucks, there’s never been a broader or more capable range of Chevrolet trucks. Chevy trucks take another leap forward in ’08 with the introduction of the Tahoe Hybrid. It features the world’s first production 2-Mode full hybrid propulsion system, which offers a 25-percent improvement in fuel economy. Better still, the fuel-saving advantages of the Tahoe Hybrid are balanced with a superior driving experience and uncompromised capability.

“The Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid combines the functionality and comfort of a full-size SUV with a 2-Mode full hybrid system that optimizes fuel efficiency in both city and highway driving, the way most Americans use their vehicles,” said Tom Stephens, group vice president, GM Powertrain. “The Tahoe Hybrid offers great performance, 25-percent better fuel economy and all of the kind of utility that our current SUV has.”

Indeed, the Tahoe Hybrid imbues all of the characteristics that customers have come to rely upon when owing a Chevy truck.

“Whether the job is delivering kids to school or drywall to a work site, customers demand the same thing from all trucks – dependable performance,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “From that perspective, Chevy has everyone covered. The range of trucks, from small to large, is unmatched in the industry and offers something for just about any task.”

In addition to the Tahoe Hybrid, the Chevy truck lineup moves into 2008 with many models that were only recently introduced to the public. Models like the Silverado and HHR panel were introduced last year, while vehicles such as Colorado received significant powertrain upgrades in the last year.

Chevrolet’s truck lineup for 2008 is outlined below:

Tahoe

The 2008 Tahoe is available in LS, LT, LTZ and Hybrid models (Hybrid with interim availability), with 2WD and 4WD. Tahoe’s standard powertrain (except base 2WD) includes an efficient 5.3L V-8 with Active Fuel Management technology that seamlessly switches from eight-cylinder to four-cylinder operation to save fuel. The Tahoe Hybrid offers the utility and capability customers seek in a full-size SUV. The Hybrid can tow up to 6,000 pounds (2,721 kg) and to maximize its efficiency, its 6.0L V-8 engine is equipped with GM’s Active Fuel Management™ technology, which switches between four- and eight-cylinder power in certain driving situations.

All Tahoe models are built on GM’s new full-size SUV platform, which incorporates features such as a fully boxed frame, coil-over-shock front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and a premium interior that bolsters the vehicle’s comfort, quality and capability. Wide front and rear tracks enhance handling and lower the center of gravity for a more confident road feel.

For 2008, Tahoe’s list of standard safety features is enhanced with the inclusion of head-curtain side impact air bags; they’re standard on all models. Previously, they were optional on some models. Additional enhancements for ’08 include a change to a 40/20/40-split bench seat in LS models that provides convenient storage space in the center section; woodgrain trim added to the forward center console and brighter instrument pointers in the gauge cluster. There are also two new exterior colors: Blue Granite and Deep Ruby Metallic.

Suburban

The ’08 Suburban is offered in LS, LT and LTZ models, with 2WD and 4WD, as well as 1500 and heavy-duty 2500 series. Suburban 1500 models come standard with an efficient 5.3L V-8 with Active Fuel Management fuel-saving technology. Also available is an all-aluminum 6.0L V-8 with Active Fuel Management and variable valve timing (VVT). A 6.0L engine with an iron cylinder block is offered on 2500 models. Several available engines run on E85, a renewable fuel made of 85 percent ethyl alcohol (ethanol) and 15 percent gasoline.

Suburban 1500 offers up to 8,100 pounds (3,674 kg) of towing capability (2WD models), when properly equipped; Suburban 2500 can tow up to 9,700 pounds (4,400 kg).

All models receive standard head-curtain side impact air bags (they were previously optional on some models) and the Suburban 2500 receives significant and noteworthy changes, including a fuel-saving six-speed automatic transmission, standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control system and available 17-inch aluminum wheels. Additional changes for ’08 include a revision to a 40/20/40-split bench seat in LS models that provides convenient storage space in the center section; woodgrain trim added to the forward center console and brighter instrument pointers in the gauge cluster. There are also two new exterior colors: Blue Granite Metallic and Deep Ruby Metallic.

Avalanche

Avalanche’s unparalleled flexibility enables it to function as an SUV, truck or both, thanks to the exclusive Midgate. Pioneered on the first-generation Avalanche, the Midgate opens to extend the cargo-carrying capability from the cargo bed’s 5-foot-3-inch-long (1.6 m) length to 8 feet 2 inches (2.5 m). The rear seat must be folded to achieve maximum storage capability; with the rear seat up and the Midgate closed, Avalanche has room for up to six passengers.

The 2008 Avalanche is available in LS, LT and LTZ models, with 2WD and 4WD. The standard powertrain includes an efficient 5.3L V-8 with Active Fuel Management technology that seamlessly switches from eight-cylinder to four-cylinder operation to save fuel. A 6.0L V-8 engine with Active Fuel Management and variable valve timing (VVT) is also available, giving Avalanche customers more choices for selecting a vehicle that has the capability they demand. Several of Avalanche’s engines are FlexFuel-capable, meaning they can run on E85 ethanol-based fuel.

For 2008, Avalanche’s list of standard safety features is enhanced with the inclusion of head curtain side impact air bags included as standard equipment on all models. Previously, they were optional on some models. Additional changes for ’08 reflect customer preferences and further enhance Avalanche’s style. They include a change to a 40/20/40-split bench seat in LS models that provides convenient storage space in the center section; woodgrain trim added to the forward center console on LTZ and brighter instrument pointers in the gauge cluster. There are also two new exterior colors: Blue Granite Metallic and Deep Ruby Metallic.

Silverado 1500

Redesigned for 2007, the Chevy Silverado soldiers on into the ’08 model year with revisions that enhance its value. The lineup is built on an all-new platform that was introduced last year. It supports a smoother ride and confident handling while delivering segment-leading capability and power. A lineup of powerful small-block V-8 engines complements the stronger chassis to deliver the light-duty segment’s highest-rated towing capacity for the higher-volume crew and extended cab models (10,500 pounds / 4,763 kg), horsepower (367 hp / 274 kW)*, with a maximum payload capacity of 2,160 pounds (980 kg).

Changes to the Silverado 1500 for ’08 include standard XM Satellite Radio on all models, availability of a power-adjustable driver’s seat on regular cab models with a bench seat, brighter instrument pointers in the gauge cluster and two new exterior colors: Dark Cherry Metallic and Deep Ruby Metallic.

Also new is an integrated trailer brake controller that is available on extended cab and crew cab models. Previously, this feature was only available on heavy-duty models; it is integrated with the ABS system and provides immediate and measured brake force signaling to electric-controlled trailer brake systems. There is no requirement for external and/or aftermarket brake control systems. The brake controller switch is conveniently mounted on the lower-left section of the instrument panel.

Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD

Chevrolet Silverado introduced all-new heavy-duty pickups during the ’07 model year. They were highlighted by all-new and differentiated exterior designs, two unique interiors and class-leading power and efficiency. They roll into 2008 ready for work or leisure, with minor refinements and enhancements, while still loaded with segment-leading and segment-exclusive features.

Silverado heavy-duties are offered in a range of 2500HD (three-quarter-ton) and 3500HD (one-ton) models; and are available in WT, LT and LTZ trim. The range of configurations – three cab styles, three cargo box styles and five wheelbase lengths – delivers tremendous choice. Some full-size truck manufacturers do not even offer three-quarter-ton or one-ton heavy-duty trucks. And among those that do, the 2008 Silverado HD pickups offer many segment-best capabilities, including 18,500-pound (8,392 kg) gross combined vehicle weight rating for vehicles with a gas V-8 and a 13,000-pound (5,897 kg) conventional trailer weight rating enabled by a larger-capacity trailer hitch platform. Maximum towing capacity is 16,700 pounds (7,575 kg), when equipped with a fifth-wheel hitch.

Changes to the Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD for ’08 include standard XM Satellite Radio on all models, availability of a power-adjustable driver’s seat on regular cab models with a bench seat, brighter instrument pointers in the gauge cluster and two new exterior colors: Dark Cherry Metallic and Deep Ruby Metallic.

Dually models in 2008 receive new, larger 17-inch wheels (replacing 16-inch wheels), which are available with bright wheel covers.

Equinox

With generous room, smart styling, available all-wheel-drive and confident performance, the Chevy Equinox continues to be one of the standouts of the compact SUV segment. Those attributes are enhanced for 2008 with the new Equinox Sport, a performance-oriented variant that delivers a serious dose of driving fun and style.

The Equinox Sport has an aggressive stance and a sporting nature, thanks to a lowered suspension, bold 18-inch wheels, a powerful, 263-horsepower (196 kW)* DOHC engine – backed up with a six-speed automatic transmission with manual tap up/tap down control – a tuned exhaust and unique exterior appointments. Details such as body color fascias and the elimination of the roof rack contribute to the sleek design, making the Equinox Sport an uncompromising performance vehicle. Front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models are available.

Changes made to all ’08 Equinox models include OnStar as standard equipment, the relocation of the compass readout from the inside rearview mirror to the driver information center, and three new exterior colors: Navy Blue Metallic, Black Granite Metallic and Golden Teal Metallic.

TrailBlazer

The TrailBlazer lineup is headed by the performance-bred TrailBlazer SS, a sell-out star that offers sports car performance combined with the functionality expected of a utility vehicle. TrailBlazer SS has unique exterior styling and specific interior appointments, including prominent 20-inch flangeless wheels. Power comes from the LS2 6.0L V-8, which produces 395 horsepower (295 kW) and 400 lb.-ft. of torque (542 Nm) – enabling the powerful SUV to reach 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. A performance suspension with lowered ride height also is part of the package. The TrailBlazer SS is available in two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.

Beyond the visceral SS, the TrailBlazer stable includes the well-equipped LT model, which is offered with available V-8 power and all-wheel-drive. GM’s fuel-saving Active Fuel Management (AFM) technology is standard with the available Vortec 5.3L V-8 engine. AFM regulates between eight- and four-cylinder power to produce up to 5 percent improved fuel economy in certain light-load driving conditions.

Across the model range, the ’08 lineup includes more standard equipment and three new exterior colors. The new standard equipment includes XM Satellite Radio and head curtain side air bags on all models (previously they were available on some models). The new colors include Dark Cherry Metallic, Black Granite Metallic and Desert Brown Metallic. Also, revisions have been made to the retail equipment packages.

HHR

The HHR features an open interior that provides the spaciousness and cargo capacity of an SUV. It has easy-to-maneuver dimensions and room for just about any lifestyle interest. The rear seats fold flat, providing 57.7 cubic feet (1,634 L) of convenient storage space, while the straight roofline and rear liftgate maximize cargo capacity, offering 25.2 cubic feet (638 L). Reconfigurable and convenient storage compartments accommodate everything from groceries to surfboards.

This popular small utility and its range of configurations greets the 2008 model year with critical acclaim and federal recognition for its safety features. Since its launch, HHR has received five-star crash ratings – the highest rating awarded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program. The five-star ratings were awarded for the driver and right-front passenger in a frontal crash, as well as five-star side-impact crash ratings for front seat and rear seat passengers.

New features and revisions for ’08 add to HHR’s safety story, including StabiliTrak electronic stability control system, tire pressure monitoring system and OnStar now standard on all models. Other changes enhance HHR’s value and style, including new 16-inch wheels. Also, a new, solid rear quarter panel option enables the customized look of the unique HHR Panel, but with a full, five-passenger interior environment.

Colorado

Coming out of a model year that saw significant changes, including two new, more powerful engines, the 2008 Chevy Colorado lineup continues with minimal changes and all of the versatility the customers have come to expect from this lineup of capable trucks.

Colorado is available in regular cab, extended cab and crew cab configurations, as well as 2WD and 4WD. The base engine in all but 4WD crew cabs is a powerful, 2.9L DOHC four-cylinder with variable valve timing (VVT) that delivers 185 horsepower (138 kW) and 190 lb.-ft. of torque (258 Nm).* Available in all models – and standard in the 4WD crew cab – is a 3.7L DOHC five-cylinder with VVT that is rated at 242 horsepower (180 kW) and 242 lb.-ft. of torque (328 Nm).*

Colorado can seat up to six while offering much higher levels of ride comfort, handling, quietness and interior space than many other midsize trucks. Standard features include rack-and-pinion steering, intermittent wipers, air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, cruise control and folding outside mirrors. Notable optional equipment includes remote keyless entry; traction assist (2WD models); XM Satellite Radio; fog lamps; self-dimming inside rearview mirror; power, heated leather seating; high-back bucket seats; a rear sliding window; and power-operated outside rearview mirrors.

Uplander

A crossover sport van for those with multifaceted lifestyle, the Uplander delivers the bold styling of an SUV, the passenger room and interior versatility of a van, and the smooth ride of a sedan. It enters the 2008 model year with more standard safety and convenience features, including a tire pressure monitoring system and XM Satellite Radio

The ‘08 Chevy Uplander is powered by a sophisticated 3.9L V-6 that uses variable valve timing to optimize performance and fuel efficiency. The 3.9L engine delivers 240 horsepower (179 kW), 240 lb.-ft. (325 Nm) of torque* and a FlexFuel version that’s capable of running on E85 ethanol is available.

Additional new and revised features for 2008 include:

Express

Powerful and versatile, Chevrolet Express is a proven passenger hauler that is able to accommodate up to 15 passengers. It’s also a reliable and durable commercial cargo van and forms the foundation for conversion vans. For 2008, Express delivers a higher level of safety, a freshened interior that includes a new driver information center and the dependable performance of Gen IV V-8 engines.

Chevrolet Express has an impressive roster of safety features that is enhanced for 2008 with the inclusion of a standard tire pressure monitoring system, as well as new flat and convex exterior mirrors that offer a wider field of vision.

Standard on all passenger vans and available on cargo vans are head curtain side air bags, providing a higher level of protection in the event of a side impact or a vehicle rollover. For enhanced occupant retention, 12- and 15-passenger models feature Enhanced Technology Glass (ETG). Also new for 2008 are shoulder belts for the center seats on all passenger models.
